Are you looking for a new challenge this year? One that could see you helping to solve the problem of meeting the energy, food and water needs for our growing population? One that could also help you to learn the skills that would give you the edge over your peers?
The Shell Ideas360 programme gives you the chance share innovative ideas to tackle the pressures on the word resources. It also allows you to collaborate with students from around the world and receive expert advice from Shell mentors. It could even help to improve your career prospects.
Now entering its fifth year, the Shell Ideas360 programme challenges university students of all disciplines to come up with ideas to meet the energy, water and food needs of a growing global population.
Previous winners have wowed the judges with some truly creative and ingenious ideas. Last year Team Smart Panels won the Judges Choice award with their idea of a tracking system for solar panels. By coiling shape memory alloys into springs that stretch when cool, this simple sun-trapping system allows the solar panel to move back and forth, tracking the sun in the sky. Other winning ideasinclude an app to cut food waste, using seaweed to tackle food poverty and harvesting dew for drinking water.
Change your world
If you have an idea that you think could change the world for the better, this is your opportunity to develop it further. Even if you don’t have an idea you can still sign up and get many benefits. Becoming a member of the Shell Ideas360 community gives you access to a whole programme of learning and discovery that can support your studies and enhance your career prospects.
By entering as a team into Shell Ideas360, you can work with like-minded students to hone your idea or help them shape theirs. You will get exclusive access to a Shell mentor, gaining invaluable insights into how to make innovative ideas leap from the drawing board into the real world. It’s a chance to network and discover more about various roles offered within a global business like Shell.
Get the right skills
Through the programme, students will have access to a Shell mentor. Your mentor will help you develop critical thinking and can offer you vital career advice. If you’re entering an idea then mentors also offer invaluable insight into the reality of the workplace. Mentors help you to stress test and persuasively present your ideas. Past students say that the tips they picked up helped them to not only impress the Shell Ideas360 judges, but also future employers and customers.
Everyone who joins the Shell Ideas360 community gets access to free webinars and masterclasses to gain valuable skills from experts, entrepreneurs and previous students. In the past Anji Hunter, former Head of Government Affairs for Tony Blair, shared her secrets for career success, we have followed a business using solar power to light up the favelas of Brazil and predicted the secrets of the cities of the future.
Shell Ideas360 is an inspiring and educational experience for any student. It also offers the chance to win a one-in-a-lifetime adventure courtesy of National Geographic, which is awarded at Make the Future Live, our annual festival of ideas and innovation in London.
